On the invitation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, National Agricultural Extension Center (NAEC) of Socialist Republic of Vietnam, a series of training workshops were conducted from November 13 to 17, 2023 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on ration formulation and evaluation software programs for beef cattle and swine in Vietnamese language using local Vietnamese feeds. This project is in cooperation with University of California Davis (UCD), United States Department of Agriculure, Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA FAS) and US Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The national implementation of the tool in Vietnam is expected to increase productivity of small-holder farmers and reduction in intensity of methane emissions (i.e., emission per unit of production).

Day 1

8:00 – 9:45  VN Apollo PC: Installation – Attendees will learn how to install the software on their PC computer and how to enable support for Vietnamese fonts.
9:45: 10:00 Break
10:00 – 12:00 VN Apollo PC: Ration Formulation – Attendees will learn how to formulate a new least cost ration for growing and breeding swine animals, which meets NRC requirements.
12:00-13:00 Lunch
13:00 – 14:45 VN Apollo PC: Ration Evaluation – Attendees will learn how to evaluate an existing ration for growing and breeding swine animals. determining if supplied nutrients meet NRC requirements.
14:45 – 15:00 Break
15:00 – 17:00 VN Apollo PC: Hands-on class exercise – Attendees will be organized into groups and each group will be assigned a problem to solve using the materials covered in previous sessions

For the beef program there are three versions: PC, Android, and IOS. Besides these three new versions, we aso have a old stand-alone PC version of Taurus which was released in 2014 and is widely in used in Vietnam.
